Do I need an alternative to TmpgEnc , I thought it was the ultimate ?

    Hi

I have a few problem flicks here , 2 .divx

    the others are svcds .

I`m trying to convert them in Tmpgenc (I tried a few versions)

    even the latest .

but TmpgEnc just crashes/flashes off after a few seconds .

But it does work with other flicks . I`ve used Gspot &

I`m told I have the correct codecs installed .& I even tried an old ,

once fail proof trick , I saved audio in virtual

dub & tried to rejoin in TmpgEnc , but no luck .This trick has worked

so many times before .Now I get a audio file with no sound.

I`ve found TmpgEnc quite odd for some time now .

Ie: Sometimes one version wont open or support a file , but then

another version will . It can work in both directions . Sometimes

the newer version won`t & an older one will , or vice versa .

So I want to ask if there is another reliable program that may

convert such file types , & where can I get it ?

    I `ll post a screenshot of the properties ,

    All help is appreciated

    Cheers -

The only problem any version of TMPGEnc should have with this file is the fact that it contains a Variable Bit rate (VBR) .MP3 audiostream. I'd suggest that you do the following:

    Converting .AVIs with VBR-MP3 Audio

Simply use VirtualDub to save the audio stream as an Uncompressed PCM (WAV) file as follows:
Load your original .AVI into VirtualDub
From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save WAV" (Enter a new filename with a ".WAV" extender).Click on "OK"
Then set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying"
Then save the .AVI as a silent .AVI (set "Audio" to "No audio" after you've saved the WAV file).

First load the "silent" .AVI into TMPGEnc, followed by the .WAV audio file.

    Let us know of your success ;>}

vcdhelp.com may have some useful information. Try adjusting the "vfw compatibility"? header to a higher value.

        Hi Batman & Setarip

Ok setarip , all i was getting was a silent

track with Vdub , so I deleted it , thinking

it was of no use , Doh!!!!

        I`ll try again

& Batman I`m not sure what

        "vfw compatibility" is ?

Or how 2 readjust it . I`ll look into it

though . Any further how to & with what

        would be appreciated

Since it doesn`t seem i can post 2

screens @ once , I`ll post the file

info for the other problem file I spoke

of last night . Any insight here is also

        appreciated .

Regarding your second .AVI - in addition to having (again) a VBRE audiostream that TMPGEnc cannot process, it contains an XviD-compressed videostream, which I'm fairly certain TMPGEnc doesn't recognize...

I'd suggest you first try following my previous suggestion and create a .WAV audio file and a "silent" .AVI and attempt to load them (.AVI FIRST) into TMPGEnc. If the version of TMPGEnc that you are using DOES, in fact, recognize the DivX v.5.02 codec, you're home free.

If TMPGEnc doesn't recognize the v.5.02 codec, do the following to change codecs (compression) used:

              1) Load the .AVI into VirtualDub

              2) Set "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"

              3) Set "Video" to "Full Processing Mode"

              4) From under the "Video" dropdown menu, click on "Compression"

              5) Select the DivX v.3.11alpha codec - If possible, set the adjustable settings to the same as the original file

              6) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" and enter a new filename for the modified file
