Subtitles on standalone player

Hi! I have an avi movie, and i downloaded the subtitles in format *.srt. It can be possible to make a dvd movie with the avi and the subtitles so it can run at a generic standalone player and how i can do it??? THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH!!!!!!

I believe you can use a program such as SubRip to PERMANENTLY embed the .srt subtitle stream in your .AVI.
