    Problem With Subtitles

I'm having problem with subtitles (sync). I'm using vobsub and I cant get the subtitles to sync? What should I do? I've tried compressing video, audio and sub in virtualdub but the audio and sub didnt sync. So I used AVI Info to sync the audio and it was successful. Can I do the AVI file with audio and then combining the subtitles later on? What program should I use? What is SubMux for?

SubMux only accepts subtitles in .SSA and .SRT format...

So what program should I use to convert these file? Looks like I have to rule out VobSub. Are there any good subtitle ripper besides Subripper? Something simpler perhaps.
