I use Premiere and also VideoWave4 for editing. My problem is exporting to tape through firewire. With VideoWave4 I get nothing when I try to export....with Premiere I sometimes get a blank frame (just a red X on the screen w/audio) or nothing. Are there any programs out there that would enable me to do a live feed from media player or divx playa? I have tried Divio and have messed around with Virtual Dub quite a bit. However, it seems that nothing works. Once again, I'm using firewire to connect to a video capture card....I do not have a TV card. I have been dealing with this problem for awhile now so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.....thanks for your time.

did u connect your tv out with your Video Recorder??
then be sure that the video recorder works with your TV.
Then u should change the display mode of your pc to TV Mode (when u connected it with VCR), then u see your screen on your TV over your VCR (but no more on your PC screen *lol*)
Then just start a player and go to full screen mode and recordThe Grandadmiral was here!Comment

To clarify myself:
My problem is exporting to tape. I have my camcorder set on dv in, but it doesn't pick up video when it is sent. Like I have said earlier...I have VideoWave4 and also Premiere 6. Is there some sort of codec I need to use for my camcorder to recognize the compression? I'm dealing with a large file so I would like to avoid producing the file or printing it to tape. I have been successful with one file using divio, however, all the others do not work. Is there some sort of way to "stream capture" files using firewire in Adobe or VideoWave4? Once again...suggestions are appreciated and welcome.Comment

Thanks for the reply Thrawn....truth of the matter is....I didn't have my instruction manual for the camcorder on me....and I was going through so much shit. It turns out that it might have been just a problem on the camcorder set up. Sorry for wasting your time...I'll see if it works and then let ya know.
By the way...this site is great!Comment

No luck.....I think I'll quit....no...I think I'll put this off for awhile, it's getting too damn frustrating.
My software/hardware/DV:
Adaptec DVPics Plus w/Texas Instrument firewire video capture card.
Computer: HP Pavillion 6545C
Processor: Celeron
Camcorder: Sony DCR-TRV230 NTSC DV IN/OUT
Video Editing Programs: Adobe Premiere 6.0, VideoWave4, Divio, VirtualDub, TMpeg, others
Burning Program: Adaptec Eazy CD Creator 3......(note: Nero does not work...would it help to make these files MPEG1?)
OP System: Windows 98
Once again, any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated...this is a real pain in the ass!!!
Thanks.Comment

Have u tried this..............
Erm ,i'm just guessing, but have you unlocked the DV IN capability of the camcorder....i know that most Sony DV camcorders come locked for DV out only.............in which case u may need a DV IN activator or a Widget(i had to get one for use on my Sony TVR120E). Try searching for DV in widget on yahoo.
If u have unlocked the DV IN, is the camcorder talking to the PC properly, ie can u play, stop the camcorder from the PC? If not there may be a problem with yr firewire card etc......
Hope this helps!

Thanks DVNeo......but isn't that widget only needed for PAL camcorders. My camcorder is NTSC. Yes, I can operate the camcorder from these programs....no problem. I just never can record anything from them. If I do hit record, or transfer to tape on the computer, the camcorder starts recording a blank screen while the video is playing. dammit@!Comment

Not in Europe
No, I'm not in Europe....I feel horrible that you guys are having the same problems that I am. However, although it's different, we still can't this damn thing to capture video from PC. Well I've posted elsewhere too......I'm going to see if anyone else knows anything about this subject. If I find an answer, I'll make sure I post it. Thanks!Comment

Figured it out
Well I figured it out, but it still seems that I have a problem. Doesn't it always seem like if you figure one thing out on a PC you run right into another road block. Anyway, I finally took the time to "produce" one of my shorter films on VideoWave......problem solved. New Problem: long vids take forever to produce and I always get an error before even 5% of the file is done. I know this has something to do with my memory (RAM). Anyone have any ideas?Comment

silly question but.... have you got enough space on your hard drive to create the previews and is your hard drive fast enough for the firewire transfer. We use a Miro DV500 on one of our machines and we did encounter the same problem, an extra hard drive solved our problem.
I edit films as a job and when we encounter that problem it is more often caused by the hard drives than anything else.

thanks for the response
It must be the hard drive (for the lack of previewing and producing large files).
I can easily take my own footage and bring it back and forth from tape and camcorder. However, when using a friends CDR, with .avi files (some sort of divx), I can't do anything. It kind of sucks too because it's alot of footage of some old college parties we used to have.
I have tried Virtual Dub and it successfully converts the files. However, I still can't use them.
Now that I think about it, yes it just may be a hard drive problem. But since I use VideoWave, it would be much easier to convert the files to the DVSoft Codec with a program like virtual dub, BUT, I do not know how to do that.
Another thing...I use a celeron processor for video which seems to run faster than a Pentium III, well sometimes it seems that way. (I use both)
If anyone knows of a codec that compresses video that I can use in Virtual Dub that has these outputs...let me know (kind of confusing...worded badly..but I think you get what I'm trying to say).
29.97 frames/sec
720 x ? screensize
thanks, maybe that could solve the problemComment
