I suck at converting from avi.. HELP

I've been capturing a video from my tv.. it's just a small video of about 30 seconds. The avi is great but the only problem is that the file is 100 Mo.

I tried to convert to different format to obtain a 5-6 Mo file but the quality sucked big time.

Do you have any suggestions ? progs or anything ?

I would suggest VirtualDub with a DivX or Xvid codec. Depending on bitrate that will be how large your file is. Also depending on bitrate your quality is affected as I am sure you already know

Reducing a 100mb avi down to the size you're suggesting without losing quality is asking a lot. However, AVI2VCD will make a good job of compacting your avi movie clip down to an mpeg-1 of manageable size without losing quality. You'll find AVI2VCD at:

You'll also find other goodies there.

Converting to MPEG-1 will result in a larger file unless you cut the bitrate and then... You lose quality.

There is NO way to compress without loseing some sort of quality of the video

          Sorry Gadget.
SKD is correct, there is no way you can recompress or re-encode without losing quality. (Hic) It must have been that extra half-un of Malt Bushmills. However, give AVI2VCD a try. Guarantee you'll end up with a much smaller mpeg - with not too appreciable loss in quality. (hic)

Does your 100Mb, 30 second long video include audio? If so, what is the format?
