Need help playing back divx4.x divx5.x and xvid files

Hi sorry to sound like a noob but I never had any problems with playing back any avi encoded by any of the above codecs but recently i switched my vid card driver and i couldnt see anything when i play but the sound is there.

So i came to this forum and checked around and tried to do whatever i could find. When i install ffdshow all the encodes become blank not just divx4. divx5. or xvid so i got rid of it so i could watch the 3.11 then got the gspot and tried to findout what codecs i needed and it said divx3 low motion or whatever other codec but i have installed those codecs already. These are avi i was able to play before i installed the new driver so i uninstalled the driver and installed my old driver and it didnt fix it. removed all the codecs and reinstalled all the codecs and still didnt work.

So i uninstalled all the codecs and installed the nemo pack and i couldnt watch anything at all. so i uninstalled it and went through one codec at a time installed 3.11 and it plays all the older stuff i have but not the stuff encoded with either divx4.0 or above

when i use gspot to find out if i have the right codec it tells me it has right codec and what it is and it was able to render it. But when i do play the avi i get audio and blank screen.

could someone please help me this is driving me nuts!

    thx!

Check that your Overlay are properly set. Reset it if necessary. Reinstalling DirectX might help as well.

        You're welcome.

p.s. Perhaps reinstalling your video card driver (to a different, more recent version, if possible) would solve the overlay problem.

Something like this happened to a friend of mine, and unfortunately he found out his vid card was defective. I hope it's not your case, but anyway, you should try installing her in some other PC, just in case you know...

The video card is not defective as seen from your success with fixing the problem. A driver problem is more like it, which is why I recommended you to reinstall the driver.
