xvid codec?

Yes, I know this is divx, but I'm tearing my hair out trying to get this thing to work!
Please, will someone help me? I'm trying to find out how to install the xvid codec, since it doesn't have anything that looks like an installer and most of the files have extensions that are unknown.

I guess you 've downloaded the source files... You've to use binaries - koepi's build for example:
