I've done some patches to Ulead 6.5 and run it in compatibility mode for win2k. Now it captures and the quality improved to the same level as Jack_Glover has. No black streaks anymore but still ghosts when there is a movement.
What is ment by Gold cable, gold coated terminals or even gold wires inside? Couldn't find any offers to high end 1394 cable.

The whole wire is gold plated....can be found at RadioShack, BestBuy, CircuitCity, Staples...costs about$15-20USD

DV Capture with Firewire -- Quality is poor

I am new to this DV capture stuff and I am also having many many problems with the quality of the DV capture. When I view the Digital 8 video on my TV, the quality is perfect and clear. When captured using FireWire, the quality is poor, even on the highest DV-AVI setting. I am also experiencing a "flicker" at the top of the captured video.

What am I doing wrong? Is it the cable? Is it the video capture card? This quality is not acceptable for burning to DVDs. I'd be better off taping to VHS... the quality would be better.

        Any advice?

A lotta people are talking about their "Digital Hi8 Vidcams"...and I think there might be some salesman getting rich out there. Is your device really a DV Device (ie. does it capture to a mini DVD...or an 8mm VHS tape?)

The Sony trv130 is a digital 8 camcorder recording to Hi8 tapes, same output digital quality as a MiniDV camcorder no more no less

I personally use Tmpgenc on the avi file then Tmpgenc DVD author to make compatible for burning to DVD.

I go for 1 hour DV footage to 1 DVD disk....most happy with the results.

I tried out the moviefactory trial but was not impressed with the quality at all.
