How do I fix my muffeled audio?

I use Nero Burning Rom 5564 to make my videos. But some of the movies I watch have poor sound. Muffeled, and hard to understand. I looked at the nickyguides on fixing audio but when I try to use VirtualDub I dont get any results. No output.

    What am I missing?

The quality of the video is "ok" we can live with it, but the audio is a problem.

I looked around for other software to fix my AVI or MPEG audio, OR video. I'd love to hear of suggestions for programs to try, as well as help forums, etc.

I'd be interested in suggestions on better video pictures as well.

And finally I heard that the quality of a CDRW goes way down if its been eraced a few times.

We're talking about movies, AVI's encoded by Nero to mpg.

    WindowsME
    Compaq 5000US

    thanks

please note im not the admin just someone with an idea. when u rip ur dvd or cd muffled audio could be because ur ripping program doesnt normalize the audio making it louder.. 2nd case if the audio is 48.8khz and u rip it to wav it sounds nice as pie. now convert it to mp3 scratchyand dull and maybe ur problem. when ripping to audio use the 44.1khz then rip to mp3 96khz for best sound and compression rate. hope this helps its my only idea. it could be the 48.8 try 44.1khz seeya goodluck.mi too have dvd rippin probs seeya.,

      Thank you for the reply.

How do I know if Nero is not normalizing the audio? Is there a setting I need to check? Where do I look? OK on 44.1khz

      Help Nero experts! <G>

          I would recommend using
MP3 48000Hz. sound and at least 128 Kb sound to get a decent result.
I don't think that Nero is the problem with the poor sound quality
but the quality of the audio.
Try the above and tell us what happened
