    .Dat Files

I have created some mpeg1 files to burn as VCD's. When I use my burning program RecorNow to burn the VCD's it changes the mpeg extension to the .dat extension. This works fine on my DVD player but I am unable to preview these files on my computer, using WMP9 0r WMP6.4 or PowerDVD. I have gone into control panel and changed the extension to "open with" these programs with no luck. The files work fine as mpegs until I burn them and the extension is changed. Can anyone help with this?

use your standart DVD viewing tool to watch dat files
windvd or powerdvd . (open media files)
    or
install the bsplayer and in preferences asign dat files to
    bs player.

RecordNow may have changed them to .dat files because you didn't designate them as .mpg somewhere in the process. As an experiment try changing one of those .dat files to a .mpg extension. If it doesn't play you can always change it back.
