I just wanna watch 'em on my TV...

    Hi,

I just got a new computer with a DVD-ROM drive. I've watched a few DVDs on it, but I long for a bigger screen.

My computer came with an adapter that plugs into what looks like a serial mouse port, with RCA outs on the other end. Unfortunately, any copyrighted DVD will not spit itself out these RCA outs. I was wondering if there is some software I could install that will bypass this and allow me to freaking watch DVDs on my TV (like I should be able to already because of my right to fair use, but oh well...)

    Thanks!

Guessing from what your saying that your graphics card has a TV out. I'm guessing the card refuses to display any DVDs that are macrovision encoded. To watch these DVDs your going to have to get a program which removes the macrovision from the DVD while your playing it. Look for a program which does this for the DVD player software you are using. Alternativley, you could rip the DVD to your hard-drive with smartripper and play in from there, but that would take time and you'll need > 7Gb of hard drive space.

      Hope this helps

Removing Macrovision from your video card's TV-out can be hard, and unless you own a graphics card that uses a common video output chip, this may be impossible (although you can always get around this through the "rip to hard-drive, remove Macrovision while ripping, and then play it off the hard-drive" method mentioned by ritin_gadge above).

There are some Macrovision removal tips here :

Might be harder since this is a laptop... but I'll give it a try, thanks!

I don't mean to be obvious, but If you want to watch DVD's on your TV then Buy a home DVD player!

I Use a Cyberhome ADM 512 firmware version 9.8 (user hackable)
This gives me the option of removing the Macrovision and region coding, and playing my SVCD/VCD's also. It was one of the cheapest on the market.

If you link it to a decent VCR and decent quality tape: well need I say more...

If you are using a laptop to view DVD's then I would convert the DVD's to VCD, you probably won't see the difference on the screen.
