    resizing in VirtualDub

    Hi there everyone,

I've got a little question about an avi (DivX compressed) file I'd like to resize in VDub. The original is 640x320, which makes for some pretty wide grins .

First I applied the RESIZE filter, resizing it to something like 448x336 (let me know if you can think of any better settings).

Second, I set the video compression.

Third, I set "direct stream copy" for the audio.

The result is acceptable, but I'm having trouble with the filesize. That's not my question, though.

MY QUESTION: would it be possible to apply the resize filter and then set direct stream copy for both audio AND video? Or doesn't this make any sense, seeing as I would be changing the video by resizing it?

    Thanks for any insight.

PS - (unrelated) does anyone know why my avatar won't show?

as soon as resizing is part of your working process in
virtual dub "full processing mode" in video dropdown menue is a MUST setting...."direct stream copy" will deny
    resizing....

by the way... it might be the case that the author has
used that aspect ratio on purpose or just did make
    a mistake....

are you aware of the fact that some players
(bsplayer or mv2 player) can change the aspectratio
while displaying just by choosing it???

maybe a resize is not necessary at all??!!

      Thanks shiny#3

I'll look into those players. It's a good learning experience for me, though. Now if I can just get my avatar to show up on my posts....

        I think the "x" in the little box looks just fine ;>}

            To shiny#3:

Got MV2 player and was able to apply a different aspect ration to the avi file while playing. Thanks for your advice.

            To rsquirell:
This is off-topic, but no, my avatar is not x-rated. Just a little design I came up with in CorelDRAW at work... I'll keep trying.

Check it out, my avatar is working! Turns out I had the jpg set to CMYK mode, not RGB. And browsers can't handle that format. Simple stuff.

Oh... we thought you deliberately used an X icon.
