    vhs to avi riddle

I have a wedding video on VHS that I recently transferred to an AVI file via Vegas Video capture. The original tape used was a vhs camera that was defective. Each time the camera would turn on from a different scene the picture would be great for a few minutes then the tape would get the snow effect going and in some places it got pretty bad. Now here is the strange part. When I transferred it into the computer via Vegas Video (AVI file) as long as the preview monitor was a 4 inch by 4 inch size the picture was picture perfect. When I increased the size to 6" by 6" the distortion came back the way it was on the vhs tape. Now I know the smaller the picture the better the picture but there was absolutly no distortion on the 4 x 4 picture. Any ideas of why the video looks good that way but I can not get that type of picture quality to DVD. Any help would be greatly apprecia

What do you mean you can't get that picture quality to DVD? Take your 4X4 AVI to VirtualDub and under "video" choose direct stream copy...check for errors and save it with new name. Then run it through TMPGenc to make it a DVD MPEG2...which you can take to TMPGenc DVD Author to prep and burn.

Sorry I am not familiar with virtual dub. The 4x4 avi file that I am referring to is the video preview in vegas video that can be stretched to a 6 x6 preview window. It is the 6x6 preview window that is really distorted. Same video but different size preview window is the only difference. I am not familiar with virtual dub but will look it up to see what I can do with it. I am assuming virtual dub can take a picture from the preview window and use that picture to create a good AVI file? Thanks for your help.

You'll find it in downloads for this site...it's good for repairing files and syncing up AVI's...but it doesn't always work.
