Burnt DVDs will not play on sony dvd player

Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong.
I have backed up some dvds using dvdshrink 3 beta 05 and nero 5.5
I followed the guides and they all play well on a Phillips stand alone dvd player. But if I try them on my new Sony dav sa 30 all I get is a message saying that the disc cannot be played.
Is there any solution to this problem or have I wasted my money on the new system.

eek! usually, if they work on a stand alone it's "Mission Accomplished"
Is it just your burned disks not working? If so, have you wrong region settings? DVD Decryptor can identify them.

I've made the discs multi regon, The funny thing is that if I just use Nero to copy unprotected discs they work perfectly.

Are you using dvd-r, dvd+r, dvd-rw? Are you positive your sony dvd player is capeable to read burned cds. If it can its probably the brand of blank dvds u are using some dvd players can be a little pickey.

I am using DVD+R
The problem appears to be with DVD shrink it must strip something off that the the player is looking for. I have tried different types of blank media and different processes of burning all with no success.
Looking at the files of the discs that do play and the ones that don't I can see no difference.
Still these things are sent to try us.

seems crazy! they work in your Philips standalone?
really sounds like the Sony has a problem with the media.
one other thing - I've heard of a setting in Nero - "force video mode" or similar - that might make the difference between the Sony reading it or not whereas the Philips could be more forgiving?
And you have an AUDIO_TS folder? that's a stumbling block too I hear.

I did insert an AUDIO_TS folder into the path. but it made no difference. and I think I've tried every setting in Nero.
I have found out that Sony are one of the worst players for playing burnt DVDs as they are so sensitive.
I'm still learning what has to be taken out to enable DVDs to be copied eg removing the protection and macrovision.
But I think that I will have to replace the Sony for another brand, as my kids are losing me at least one DVD a month. So I really need some way of backing up my collection.
