    Creating VRO Files

Ok, possibly a weird request as most ppl seem to want to take VRO files and make VOB files from them. However, I have a toshiba RD-X30 DVD recorder that can record on DVD-RAM disks in VRO format that I can then read on my PC DVD-RAM drive. This all works great. I would like however to be able to convert some AVI files to the VRO format so I can watch them on my TV using the Toshiba player. I can get them into VOB format but this isn't going to help me much as the Toshiba expects all RAM disks to be in VRO format. What I am after is some software that can create the VRO format files. Anyone out there know of any such software.

    Would be very grateful

    thx

Thx, I have had a look at this site, but it looks like the software can read VROs but doesn't mention it can creae them, sorry to be a pain, but do you know for a fact that it can create them. If so I'll buy it.

      Cheers again

Nope. That's why my statement in the other thread was, "This may address your needs" - I'd suggest you communicate with the website via email to get a definitive response...

Hi there, just though I'd update this thread with what I have found so far.

I am still waiting for the authors of GreatVideo to respond to my e-mail requesting details of the write formats they support. However it is the christmas period so I'll give them a bit longer before I get upset!!

I have in the meantime got a trial version of WinDVD creator 2 from their website. This supports DVD-VR format which is actually the format that produces the VRO files I have now learned! If I create a DVD-RAM in this mode using this software it is useable in my Toshiba RD-XS30 DVD recorder (It actually warns that some characters in titles are unreadable, probably to do with characters ste diffrences between PC and the device) and the recorded data seems to play back fine. I can only produce a 6 minute video clip at the moment, but I think that is probably because it is the trial software.

It costs arounf $99, so whats that, £65ish? That seems a little steep to me for what I want to use it for, and its other facilities are not fantastic (its a jack of all trades really, master of none). But it does go to prove such software exists and you can make it work.

I shall still search for cheaper alternatives but thought ppl might want to know what I have found so far.

              Cheers

Update on the GreatVideo product, customer support replied with the following:

It only takes VRO as input and then converts that to MOV (quicktime). And depending on OS, as a second independent step, convert MOV to VOB.

So it is not really suitable for my purposes. Hope this info is usefull to some other ppl.

Thanks for all your help over this.

                Cheers
