    Codec info

Hi, I have an avi, and I want to exactly which codecs are required in order to play it, in windows media player

I've attached the specs garnered from virtual dub and Gspot. If you could educate me a little on how to figure this out for myself that would be great. My guess is I need the Xvid codec that it was decompressed with... Other than that I don't know.

    Thanks very much.

      that's XviD + mp3,
      use ffdshow-alpha to playback XviD.

Okay so, from a fresh install of windows xp, all I would need to install is ffdshow-alpha inorder to play this. I wouldn't need DIVX 5 or anything else?

        Thanks again.

if you don't plan to encode files yourself using xvid (or divx - some ppl still uses divx ), just install ffdshow. it handles playback for both and more...
