Best program to compress wmv files?

I've just tried Stoikvideo to convert wmv to avi but the results were a huge avi file. I took it through virtuallab, divx codec and the end result in size was damn near the same as the original wmv...

So, I take it it'll be easier or more convenient to just get a emv file compresser...Whats the best out?

i use virtualdub 1.3c for my wmv/asf to divx encodes... if you don't want to compress it using vdub, just save it as an avi with vdub and compress with a progam of your choosing

    good luck

i forgot that vdub 1.3c accepts asf files, not wmv, but here is a complete guide for wmv to divx conversions:

it uses vdub and tmpgenc... i haven't had a single wmv or asf file on my computer for several years cause they just aint good enough

Ok, I went to that site and dl'd all the needed components...Everything was going fine until I opened Grapheditn go the ommand to use the "Wav Dest Filter"... It wasn't in the list.. I came to the forum and did a search and came to this thread http://forum.digital-digest.com/show...light=wav+dest

It had an wav dest zip... Do you happen to know where I put the components when I unzip it?

Or where I can find the wav dest filter?

Thnx a mil for ur help so far!

You know....this may be too easy (and NOT free), but the last time I looked, TMPGenc takes and converts WMV to the MPEG of your choosing....and if you REALLY want small files, DRDivX will convert that .mpg to a DivX .avi in three easy steps. Beats building a graphedit graph.
