    confused and lost

I am new to this and would like some help. I d/l a movie last night and tried to burn it to a cd-r and dvd-r. Both work on my computer but neither work on my Sony cd/dvd player. What have I done wrong. Also does anyone know the software DCMoviez?
When I open the software I cannot connect to the file sharing server. (gnutella) I am behind a router with comcast, if that makes a difference. Thanks for your help.

We need more info. Does the movie dl ready to burn (a Video_TS) file or do you author it your self? What burning program are you using. Many stand alones won't play VCD or SVCD even if the box says they will.

It is a mpeg file. It plays on Media Player or other movie players on my computer. I used Power Producer to burn it to a DVD-R and B's Clip to burn it to the CD-R. I also have Nero and DVD Ripper and Copying Suite. Hope that helps

A computer can play just about anything, with the right codecs. A dvd player can only play dvd compliant mpegs (with the rare exception).
I suggest you start reading some guides on how to encode.transcode your files, into a dvd compliant mpeg 2 video, and how to burn such files.

You said you used Power Producer to burn it. Did you author it for DVD first? If you have a Video_TS file try dropping it into DVD mode in Nero. If Nero takes and burns it with no error messages, chances are your stand alone doesn't like the disc or some other detail. DVD players are very picky about DVD compliancy. Have you burned DVD video in the past on the same brand of blank that worked on your Sony?

No I did not author it first.... Been doing alot of reading and I think I have to encode it first and then author it and then burn it.
Will report back. thanks for helping me with your suggestions.

I think you'll find this helpful. Download TMPGEnc DVD Author. http://www.videohelp.com/tools?s=2#2 It is straight forward and simple to use. It will accept almost any mpeg 1 or 2 file (no encoding needed usually) and has easy menu creation. The new version 1.5 will also burn the output. I have found it somewhat unreliable for burning but if you have Nero do it with that.

I have never had a problem with TMPGenc burns....but before you can get anything into DVD Author it needs to be MPEG2 DVD compliant. If the mpegs are not mpeg2's, you may want to use TMPGenc Plus (a different program) to convert them.

DVD Author will accept almost any mpg file 1 or 2. In fact, you can combine mpeg1 and 2 throughout the disc. Try it rsquirell, you'll like it!
