Still don't get it

Have converted a movie from avi 2 mpg. The size of the movie is :300 MB, But when I want 2 make it VCD the file becomes 803 MB or larger. What Am I doing wrong ???

MPEG1 dosen't compress as good as divx-avi. So normal VCD needs about 600MB per hour. If you choose a lower bitrate you might be able to produce a smaller file, but you will also loose some quality.

As stated above, when you convert the avi to mpg, the resulting file will be bigger. Depending on the type of VCD (Normal or SVCD) you're planning to make, what you should be more worried about is the total length of the movie and hence how many CDs will be required. After you've got the CDs done, you can always delete the gargantuan mpg file (if i may call it so).

What software are you using to create the MPEG1 file? Where did you find this information that I've quoted?
I ask because if, in fact you've made a proper MPEG1 file, some of the above is fallacious - The compression (video) would no longer be DivxMpg4V3, rather it would be MPEG1. The audio (typically) would be MPEG1-Layer II.

Also, if you want to create a conforming PAL VCD (which is a modified MPEG1 format) you should convert the file to 352x288 - which will also reduce the filesize.

TMPGEnc would be the more proper software to use for creating VCD-compliant mpg files.

I'm afraid not - VirtualDub is only capable of output in .AVI format. Therefore, there is no way you can have created an MPEG1 file usnig only VirtualDub.

I hope you're not just "trying to have a little fun" here...
