Using DivX w/ or w/out Media Player

I have tried to install several codecs with no success. I've also tried using DivX players instead of Win Media Player. Still no luck. I really need help, or I may never watch a DivX.

I have installed codec 3.11,4.,Avi 1263. installed to program. OS Win98.

which codec specifications do your avis (hope at least u got avi video files ) have? (audio + video compression, u get this info by right-clicking the file and check the infos)

I have dumped most already. The movie I've been trying with is MPEG audio and unknown video. It was a DivX avi file according to the download.

is the audio mpeg layer 3? or mpeg?

which divx4 codec did u install? 4.12?

codecs i installed (no probs with any divx):
1) microsoft codec update
2) divx 3.11
3) divx 4.12 bundle
