Unfortunately, there is no flawless method for converting realmedia files to another format. VCDhelp.com and divx-digest.com contain guides on how to carry out these conversions.
TINRA is a free software that can convert RM files to avi files, you can select the compression. You can convert avi to mpeg using TMPGEnc.
However, I have not had any success with TINRA.
Screen capturing software may be of help. EO Video, Camtasia, or Snag-it.
