    89020003 PowerDVD Error Notes

This is my experience with the 89020003 error code from PowerDVD.

I wanted to make a copy of a 2 DVD set to split over 3 4.7Gb DVD-R's so I used DVD Shrink and used the re-author functionality. I saved the rip as files and burnt using Nero 6.0 under VIDEO_TS folders (DVD-Video icon) and it seemed to work OK until I tried skipping chapters using PowerDVD and got the error code 89020003 blah blah blah. I tried it in my LG DVD player and it got all confused after chapter 4. Even my XBox didn't like the rip using the Xbox default DVD player although XBox Media Centre handled it quite fine. I thought it was my DVD burner (an old Pioneer 104) so I updated firmware and created two more psuedo coasters. PowerDVD 4.0 still said 89020003 blah blah blah but PowerDVD 5.0 played fine. LG DVD player was the same from pre and post firmware upgrade in that it couldn't resync after chapter 4.

My problem went away when I started making rips using the ISO image method from DVD Shrink as opposed to the create file to place in VIDEO_TS folder method. As soon as I used ISO image method the DVD rip played in PowerDVD 4.0, 5.0 and my LG DVD player flawlessly. I wouldn't mind betting that the firmware upgrade made no change to my pseudo coaster production line.

My two cents worth. Before you go cleaning lenses and changing DVD playing software and firmware upgrades and ..... ...... ...... ad infinitum, try ripping as an ISO image then burn the image. I used Nero 6.0 to burn the ISO image (DVD-ROM (ISO) icon). Whether the problem lies in the ripping or the burning I have no idea but using ISO image method worked for me. I hope this post can prevent more pseudo coaster mass production.

    Cheers and burn baby burn!!!

    Power DVD error code 89020003

First Of all lemme let you in on something that you all are missing....seems that this code does not have a fix.....and it comes in all colors and shapes....right

If you use software to illegally Pirate Store DVDs......the legit recording software will insert errors into the Data stream.....hence what the Code says.....may be dmaged to prevent playback.

Read your EULA and your rights as a software consumer......
.......Yeah....that little box that you check without reading the contents of the 18 or so pages.

Making copies of DVDs or software is illegal.....

      "I used Nero 6.0"

This initial version of NERO 6 is TERRIBLY flawed - and is undoubtedly the cause of your problem. Update to the most recent version immediately...

"derekj308" has made absolutely NO reference to any illegal behavior.

In the U.S. and many other countries, copyright laws permit the owner of purchased commercial media to make a backup copy for personal use.

Nowhere in the post does "derekj308" indicate that the DVDs are not purchased and owned (As a matter of fact, there's no statement that the DVDs referred to are COMMERCIAL).

Additionally, if YOU would read the rules of these forums, you'd note that it's against the rules to post questions about copying commercial media that's been obtained other than by purchase...

Just to set the record straight guys.

The DVD's I was referring to in my post are mine, I paid for them and I copied (ripped) them so my 5 year old daughter could put them in and out of my DVD player and scratch them to her hearts delight while my original is kept locked up in the study.

In hindsight I tend to agree with setarip that Nero 6.0 is the cause of the problem. I've burnt with later versions of Nero since the original post and also with RecordNow DX and haven't had the same problem occur.

BTW I don't think the error message is inferring that the 'damage' is caused deliberately to prevent playback. I think its just bad engrish (lol) by the programmers.
