Errors...what else

Getting this Error 89020003 and I read a few forums before I came here. Making a fair use copy of Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind I have two burners. One is a NEC 16x and the other is a Sony 12x. Both take what I give them which is 4x Maxell media. Recently I bought 8x Memorex Media. I have used both and just used the 8x media on the Sony to rip Mr Show Season 4 Disks 1 and 2. I also ripped Supersize Me but only on the Maxell 4x. Both disks now are giving me the same error in Power DVD sporatically. Meaning that Supersize Me which is on the 4X media plays one out of every 5 times with the inability to skip chapters past chapter 9 before the error is given. On Both Burners...which is surprising as I have 40 other movies that play fine with the 4X media. The 8X media wont play at all just on either burner and the error message is given immediatly. **** you say??? Well so do I!

The 4x media plays on a stand alone just fine as well as on a separate toshiba tablet PC running XP SP2...(All Machines have this OS and SP#). The 8X media skips on the stand alone but plays fine on the toshiba...follow me???

So what the **** is happenning to my pretty little world? The 12x SOny is set to master and the NEC is slave. Im thinking either SP2 or a Master Slave issue. Im not ready to accept that its the media because I was working and then was not (IE..Ripping Mr Show on the 8X media works fine). Could it possibly be master slave settings and motherboard compatability? **** if I know...It was working great untill two days ago.

If you do a search (button at top of page) you'll see several issues regarding the SP2 (good and bad). Try running your disc through a program like:

to see just WHO made the disc and their ID that you're using. They may or may NOT be the same. You might try burning your 8x at 2x and give that a try. Burning faster is not always the best thing. Some would say to check and see if there is a firmware update for your burners so that they could handle the faster speeds of the disc you're trying to use. If you purchased your burners before the 8x disc were placed on the market then you may have found your answer. Skipping, freezing, jumping ect are all signs of disc related issues. Start narrowing the field.

You rock...it is all about narrowing the field. The response time was priceless. A Firmware upgrade is available for the Sony 8x drive to give it the ability to recognize and utilize 8x media certified to 12x but get this...since i posted this today I was able to make copy a copy of Mr Show Season 4, for test purposes only, and used the original media I made the first copy to, which was 8x (and worked fine if you remember), making the copy to the second disk which was also the 8x media and it worked fine copying at 8x! Im beginning to wonder if it is these two new movies I bought? All the other movies I have made copies of under the fair use act yeilded absolutly superb results. Either computer or stand-alone. It...for the moment...appears to be a combonation of the media I am using and the movie I chose to back up. Being that MR Show duplicated perfectly off of a copy, I was forced to narrow this issue down to those mentioned previously in this paragraph. Thanks for being there so quickly to bounce the ideas off of.

P.S. What is the deal with 12x and 16x burn rates when I cant seem to get past 8x. Both my Sony and NEC say either 12x or 16x and yet...Im left holdin me groin? Is there such a thing as certified 12x and certified 16x DVD+R/RW that I can use? No-One seems to post info...I'll browse your site as well as the suggested links regarding SP2!

Your media should contain write strategies for 12x and 16x.

If you download this program

and then insert an empty disc and clic on the "media" icon you should see what strategies the disc holds.

Today the hardware/burners are a little bit further in the technic than available discs to burn.

Can't Read

So after all the hair pulling I uninstalled SP2 and noticed absolutely no difference in my computers ability to play DVD's. Remember I have had over 40 successfull burns before installing the second burner and installing SP2 at whcih point I noticed that I could rip but not playback. Now, after uninstalling SP2...same thing...except this time I am unable to playback either the 4x media or the 8x media in my system. Plays fine on a standalone or a separate machine. I ripped "Human Traffic". Funny thing is that all I get is the FBI warning and then it quits and says the disk is scratched. Plays fine from the HD with out any issues. This has got to be within either the application NERO ULTRA or maybe the master/slave settings on the IDE cable which would be funny because I havent had that issue after I installed the second drive with the 4x media on either drive when testing all the old disks. DO you believe in Ghosts??? Im clueless. Im going to detatch the slave burner (NEC 16x) and see what happens with just a master setting. Maybe its the IDE cable? Transfer rate bursts? **** me!

I ripped Human Traffic at 8x with certified 8x media and at 2.4x with certified 4x media..still the same error and the same results. fyi, two different media brands as well

Cant actually find where it says that a patch is available that fixes those particular errors...I'll keep looking though.

Well the link to the forum certainly says there is a fix but once you click on the link and select update PowerDVD 4.0..the fix that is available does not indicate that it is a fix for those actual errors. Im going to download it anyway and run it to see if it makes the difference.

yeah...the patch didn't really do anything except make the application load all funny (flickers) before it starts playing at which point it still says those errors of the disk being dirty which it isnt. Sleuting is hard work.
