Yet *ANOTHER* dumb newbie Q! How to burn FROM HDD backups?

First off, hello all, and thanks for being here to help out stupid newbies.

I have a question, that hopefully has an easy answer.

I have about 120 DVD's that I own outright. So, I bought a pair of 200 gig drives to back up all my DVD's onto. I spent all this week burning copies of all my DVD's, with no problems. DVD shrink was pretty easy to install, set up and figure out. One of the movies I burned was flawed, and gets about 3/4 of the way through (in a standalone player) and then bonks. I want to re-burn using a higher quality DVD media, but can't figure out for the life of me how to burn FROM the backup folder on my harddrive.

I have Nero 6.0.0.28 installed, and am fairly good at using it, until now. Whenever I try to use Nero to create a DVD from the backup files, the "burn disk" button in Nero is faded out, and I cannot click on it. If anyone can give me a super quick tutoring on how to burn a DVD using Nero, I'd really appreciate it. As it is, I'm pretty fed up with trying to guesswork everything.

    Thanks much!

I would suggest that you update your version of Nero (they are free within the same parent version) As for as the guide:

As an added note you might want to read what others have to say about the burner and player you're using as far as disc compatability gos:

    for writer compatibility search here:

and for DVD player compatibility search here:

I would also suggest you check the disc that you're using with a program like:

to see just WHO made them as not all companies make their own disc. Using a good top quality disc can stop many problems before they happen.

Well. Thanks, I guess. I'll have current and updated software, with no idea how to use it to burn a disk.

I just need to know the steps I need to take to burn the disk. IE, got to file> burn disk, blah, blah blah.

      Thanks

      (PS, GO BOSTON!)

        1) Set NERO to "DVD-Video" mode

        2) For ONE of your DVD sets on the hard drive, select ALL of the .IFO, .BUP, and .VOB files - and drag and drop them into the RED "VIDEO_TS" folder

        3) The "Burn" icon should now be available for selection

No good. 3 coasters so far.

I put all the files that DVD shrink saved to my HDD (All 77 for "Aladdin") into the "VIDEO_TS" folder, and burned. Makes it to almost the end of the burn and then reports that the burning failed.

Should I be dividing any of the files between the "VIDEO_TS" folders and the "AUDIO_TS" folders? Or just putting all files into the video folder?

Appreciate any help, I really don't understand why it's being such a hassle. Everything else has been so easy so far.

I did burn ONE disk that worked, sort of. (All disks are burned at 2X) I put it in a standalone, and it plays the FBI warning screen, and then just ends and shuts off.

          Any ideas?

          Thanks.

            "Any ideas?"

It certainly sounds like you're experiencing the perils of low quality burnable media. Try using higher quality media - such as Ritek...

              Lol @ Igha.

First: Be thankful you don't work helpdesk, you'd give yourself a stroke within a week.

Second: A did put all the files into the VIDEO_TS folder. Christ, it's not that complicated to do.

Third: It's not an issue with the media I'm using. When I change out a DVD i'm backing up and slap in a blank while using DVD Shrink, the disk burns perfectly. It's burning from files on the HD that I'm having issues with.

Lastly, Get over yourself. Not everyone is as perfect as you are.

Seriously, I'm not trying to be a dick, but I don't need to be talked to like I'm a 4 year old. Yeesh.

Check to make sure that DMA is ON for ALL drives, including your hard drive...

                As far as, (PS, GO BOSTON!) - Talk about a lost cause ;>}

Lol. I bet just as you hit "submit reply", Ortiz hit his homer over the right field wall. 6 - 4 Boston.

                  Sweeeeeeeet.

As for DMA, thanks, i'll double check to make sure it's on. Thanks for the help.

I'm looking. I'm embarrassed to say this... but I can't remember where to find it under winXP pro... I thought it was under drive properties...

                      *scratching head*

I think I need to put on another pot of coffee. Heh.

                          Weird....

I just put one of the "coasters" that failed during the burn process... Works perfectly in a standalone. Which is REALLY odd. Considering it was a failed burn.

                          *shrug*

NERO often generates a FALSE "failed to perform end of disc" message...
