    General guidance

    I have successfully converted avi files on my HDD to DVD's that will play on my DVD player for my TV. My question is what's is a simple to use, good qual. software pkg. that will convert nearly any MPEG, MPG video files to DVD so that they will also play on the TV DVD player?
    I'm a newbie to video recording so you will have to KIS for me.

    One set of procedures (other posters may/probably will suggest alternative methods) would be:

    1) If not already DVD-compliant, use "TMPGEnc" (or "TMPGEncPlus") to convert the MPEG to compliant MPEG2-for-DVD format - Use "TMPGEnc's" DVD wizard/template to accomplish this (This step may not be necessary, if your MPEG-2 filies are already in DVD compliant format)

    2) Use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (a different program than "TMPGEnc") to easily create the required additional DVD files and structure (and chapters and a menu, if you wish)

    **If the combined filesize of the DVD "package" written to your hard drive is greater than 4.37Gb, use DVD Shrink (or similar) to compress

    If your O/S is either Win2000 or WinXP, TMPGEnc DVD Author can also burn your DVD. Otherwise, use NERO to burn in "DVD-Video" mode
    (As an alternative to "TMPGEnc DVD Author", you could use "DVDLab")

    Let us know of your success ;>}

      try "nerovision express" at http://www.nero.com

      it is very easy to use, and converts almost anything to dvd. It is not free though

      or, as setarip said, use "tmpgenc"... guides can be found at http://www.doom9.org or http://www.afterdawn.com

        What exactly is meant when you write "compliant MPEG2-for-DVD"?

            OK. I guess I need a simple tutorial that explains the basics, terminology, proceedures, etc. Any suggestions?

              I've already provided you with DETAILED procedures - try them...

              ("TMPGEnc DVD Author" will "tell" you if it can process your present MPEG files. If they are rejected, simply process them first, as I've DETAILED, using "TMPGEnc" [Different than "TMPGEnc DVD Author"])

                reread my suggestion about doom9.org and afterdawn.com

                afterdawn.com even has a very good glossary
