Ok started out burning few weeks ago going great now all of a sudden i get write errors when burning the dvd's. If i don't let dvd shrink auto start nero it seems to never fail is this a known bug or should I post the error message I am getting?

    Thanks,

Your installed firmware version is: Recorder: Version: 1.36

            Latest is 1.72.

            Physical memory : 1023MB (1047996kB)
            Free physical memory: 2MB (2420kB)
            Memory in use : 54 %

Are you running another program at the same time you are burning?

What brand of discs do you use?

I am using imation dvd+R. No nothing was running I don't think will check that next time make sure none of my anti virus stuff running in background. I am thinking about buying some memorex dvd+R at sams they had a good dead but not sure if they will work good imation have been good so far.

One question on installing new firmware is it hard? It says it could mess up your drive?

Anti-virus program shouldn't be a problem to run in the background. Just looked odd that you have so much memory and so much was used by the system. Could be that Nero grab as much as it can.

The odd thing is that you can't burn errorfree automatic with DVDShrink - but it works stand alone. That would indicate that the firmware update is not needed. On the other hand your version is old. I wonder how good your burns really are. Can you play the burned disc on a player without errors/pixelation/freezing?

Prior to updating your firmware you can check out this program: (freeware) www.dvdinfopro.com

Use the function: Scan your disc for CRC-read errors. If everything is good in your burning you should only see green dots. If there are any read ones - go for the firmware upgrade.

When you do the firmware upgrade: Create a dos startup disc/floppy - put the firmwareupgrade on that and start your PC from the DOS boot floppy and make sure you don't have any DVD in the burner. Usually there is a txt-file in the firmware upgrade packet that will tell you more about how to do.

Ok it is running now the dvdinfopro program 41percent done all green so far But from reading about my dvd player and the firmware I think if i upgrade The Ritec dvd+R i bought will work. And that the new firmware will let me write at faster speeds. One more question though about the firmware install.

Ok I make a Windows ME boot disk but I put the two files I downloaded the RFlash file and other one? I clicked on the filed on my laptop and it came up with some box that looks like you pick your drive and hit go lol. Thanks for you help by the way. Nice to know there are helpful people here.

This is a list of drivers that could create a conflict with your burning. When you burn stand alone with Nero (directly from the files on your hard disk) some of these drivers are not indicated as a possible conflict. Take a look at your latest log file from Nero and see if there is any that don't appear in that log.

Normally it's just an exe file that will launch the update automatic.

This is from the good one from nero posted so i could see them side by side .

So the last one is only one that is not on both IoSubsys\ESDI

last newb question then. So i don't have to make startup disk i can just use the auto program with it? sorry for asking so much just do not want to mess up my drive.

You can - but be sure that you don't are running any other programs at the same time.
