Can anyone help with splicing .vob files

I've been reading through these posts for 2 days and I'm still not certain how I should do what I need to do.

Friends all went skydiving and bought individual dvd's of their experience.

What they want me to do is take their 5 individual movies (dvd's) and splice them into one movie. The other thing is that there is an intro to each one that is exactly the same. They want only the beginning to have this intro. And they want the intro and each person's video to be a "chapter". This way they can ff or rw to the chapter they want to watch.

I'm sure this can be done. I've tried with DVDShrink, but I can figure out how to cut or copy the portion that I want.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks a lot,

    Norseman

I personally haven't done anything like that, but I am guessing you would use TMPGEnc DVD Author which can be downloaded at the bottom of my post.

The guess by "jmet" is correct. You can use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (Different than "TMPGEnc" and "TMPGEncPlus") to load them individually as "Add new track" and therby make each of them a separate (as I'm sure you really mean) TITLE, each of which can be accessed from the menu you can EASILY create with this software.

If the resultant filesize is too big to put on one DVD, simply use DVD Shrink to compress it...

Thanks for the posts! I'm going to give the TMPGEnc DVD Author a shot. There's no free download of this? Just the "trial" version?

"There's no free download of this? Just the 'trial' version?"

The "trial version" is a FULLBLOWN, fully functional, version of the software that is limited to (if I remember correctly) 30 days of functionality...

Ok, so I've downloaded and used TMPGEnc DVD Author. But I must be doing something wrong because each time I burn a CD and put it in my dvdplayer, it says "Disc Error"

Can I get a good set of instructions on how to make a DVD that will play in my home dvd player?

That's probably a different problem (media for example?). Do the usual: check whether it plays on your computer, try on another standalone, try another type of media etc etc etc...
TMPGenc DVD Author does create good compliant DVDs as far as I know, so I don't think that's your problem.

              A couple PgcEdit guides
MenuShrink can shrink your menus to 5-10% of their original size.

                1) I presume you meant "DVD and NOT "CD"

                2) Are you burning DVD+Rs or DVD-Rs? Do you know which of these two formats (if either) is recognized by your standalone DVD player?

                3) As previously mentioned, check to see if your burned DVD plays on your PC

Here's How I splice it using DVDShrink

1 - Put your DVD in the drive
2 - Run DvdShrink and click on open disc (I use DVD Shrink version 3.2.0.15)
3 - After the disc is analysed, click on Re-author then drag the
main movie from the right window and drop it to the top left
window, click on Play button to see if this is what you want to
                  splice.
4 - Now right click on the movie on the left window and click on
Set Start/End Frames... from the popup menu.
5 - A popup window will appear. Use the sliders to adjust where
the start frame and end frame then click OK.
6 - Now click on the Play button to see if this is what you want.
If it is then Click on Backup!
7 - You have the option to backup to a blank DVD or to a folder in your hard disk. In your case, I guess you would want to save each movie to a separate folder first.

Now that you are done with splicing ... Your next step is to join all the VOB's back, make them into 1 Tile Set with chapters in it.

You'll will need 2 more programs: VobEdit.exe and IfoEdit.exe which you can download from Doom9.

                  To join all the VOB's:
1 - First, rename each movie in the order you want to play
                  in this format: VTS_01_00x.VOB
where x is a number starting with 1,2,3 etc....
2 - After renaming all the movies, create a folder and move all of
                  them to this folder.
3 - Run VobEdit.exe , click Open. Navigate to this folder
and open the first VOB file, ie. VTS_01_001.VOB
4 - From the menu, click on Edit->Join Clips. Use the default
                  for all the screens.
5 - A new set of VOB files with a size of one GIG each except
the last one will be created and each has a name
                  VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB etc....
Note that there's no leading 0's on the last number of the files.
6 - Now move the newly created files to another folder
or delete all the VTS_01_00x files.

To create a new set of IFO files:
1 - Run IfoEdit.exe and click on Create IFOs button.
2 - A popup window appear, select the first VTS_01_1.VOB from
the folder where you stored it then click OK
3 - After it's done creating IFO's files, click on VOB extras button
and check on "Correct VOB-Unit" and "Correct original IFO files"
                  then click OK.

Now, use one of the DVD player sofware to play the movie to test it, I use PowerDVD. If it works then you can burn it to a blank
                  DVD.

Hope this is what you are looking for......
