    PS2 Playback problem

    Can someone help me please?

We made and sell a 2 disc dvd on making your own fishing tackle. I've tested the burned discs (DVD-R) on a number of different machines and they all worked fine. A customer tried a copy on his PS2 and all he got was a loud high pitched squeal. Is anyone aware of compatibility issues with DVD-R and a PS2? Is there a website that lists compatability issues so that I can avoid these issues in the future?

    Many thanks!
    Cheers,
    J.P.

There is no website list that I am aware of. There many different versions of the PS2, each version is different. I have a PS2 Version 7, and it played DVD+R only. But have a friend that has a Version 5 that plays DVD-R only.

On a side note, this is a video forum. If I were you I would go to a game forum.

Just an update, it very much depends on the model or mods that have been done to the unit, but once again thanks for the help.

            To out2llunge

If your burner is capable of "bitsetting" (turns a bit [1/8 of 1 byte] either on or off, to make ONLY a DVD+R [NOT a DVD-R] appear to most players to be a DVD-ROM), start cranking out DVD+Rs with the bit set.

Otherwise, choose either DVD+Rs or DVD-Rs and include a statement with your product stating which format a DVD player (or PS2, or XBox, etc.) must be capable of playing...

Thanks setarip. We were just deciding what kind of disclaimer might be appropriate.

(Just kidding) How about, "If this DVD doesn't playback for you, either fish or cut bait!" ?
