Make sure you've installed any drivers that came with your camera. A simple free one is Virtualdub. In "file" select "capture avi"
To capture avi you will need the divx 3.11 alpha codec (from divx-digest.com) If you want you can also try divx 4 and but divx 3.11 is still recommended.
For "good software" I would do a search on download.com and read user reviews. Also view pcworld.com they do a lot of reviews.
DO NOT capture with a divx codec.
usually whatever capture card you have comes with some kind of software.
do you have a cap card?
you always want to cap in uncompressed avi or use a codec called "huffy uv" it is a "lossless" codec..
also check out adobe premier...mgi video wave...ulead video studio..ulead media studio....avid....vegas video....
Yes, John is right. I neglected to mention this. If your PC is "not the latest and greatest" a direct divx capture will result in a great loss of quality, and many dropped frames. It should also be noted, that you will have a large avi as such you would want to have a large hard drive. Then convert this uncompressed avi to divx 3.11 (check divx-digest guides). Instead, capture in uncompressed avi. Also, utilize other software as well.
my computer is quite new
but do i have to install a special card inside it?
or is it possible to edit,capture- and save
with a software that does not require of such?
is there a software like this out there?
if your puter is new..does it have some kind of capture card? such as a fire wire card? you might already have a card.you do capture edit and save with the software but you need the hardware piece to get the video from your cam to your puter.if you do not want to open your puter you can get a card to connect to your usb port for cheap.
what do u mean with lost frames when capt divx?
i got 1 GHZ Athlon using Win2k and 512mb ram
when i first tried capturing to divx using virtualdub (note other capt progs worked fine) i got tons of lost frames
i just highered the video buffer to at least 20 or so and get noooooo lost frames
You should check your system specifications, I think John is referring to your video card (is it tv-in capable?). Most likely, if you have this card you will have recieved software that can perform capture funtions.
Does your computer have a firewire port (IEEE94 I think)? How do you connect your camera into the computer? Try virtualdub. If you are able to capture video, it would indicate that you have a capture card.
