    "Focus or tracking error"

Most times this is indicative of a hardware problem.

You might try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on your burner. Maxell makes one that retails for approximately $10US...

"does not burn CD's (I mean the program do not seee it as being a cd writer."

You might try UNinstalling and then REinstalling NERO...

Have you, as I previously suggested, tried running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on your burner?

Yes I cleaned the drive before doing anything. I already uninstalled and reinstalled NERO.. got any idea where to get the driver A100 at least to reload it and restart from scratch? I have been trying looking into sites, but cannot find A100. More detailed info. I have to problems now:
            1) While creating an audio CD with NERO, I do select the songs and then next to select speed and burn... well the right momento I do insert a blank CD in the drive the BURN button and the speed field get inactive (so I cannot click on them)
            2) If I insert an autoinstall CD (like windows or NERO), it won't run or install at all. (fyi I do have a DVD reader only installed as well and this works fine on it)
            3) I do play music and DVD's though.

            Any IDEA.. pelase

Your original problem was a "Focus or tracking error"

As I said initially, most times this is indicative of a hardware problem.

The firmware update would not normally have any positive effect regarding an error of this type.

You drive may simply be dying...

I had the same problem with my pc when i installed my new dvd writer 3 months back. Windows would not recognise it as a dvd drive, and it wouldnt play dvds, only cds. After a lot of forum browsing all over the net i found out it was conflicting with my "Intel accelarator program", a small bit of software Intel released to give pIII chips a boost. If you have that on your machine uninstall it.

I do not have such an application. Iam running a P4 2.8 Gb with WINXP Home edition. What I am trying to do now is to find out a way to get the firmware version A100 for Windows and try to reinstall it back and see if I can go back to the original intermittent failure. DO you have any ieda where to go?
I was able to get the DOS version, but I do not have any DOS on my machine
                    Thanks for your help

To open command prompt, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt...

                        autorun ??

I have tried it all, with no success. Thanks anyway for all you support. So I bought a new DVD writer and it works fine now: I can burn CD's again. The only thing is that I cannot get the CD/DVD's programs with autorun to start automatically as it did before.. To run a program from a CD I have to open the CD's form System REsources icon and than start whatever program I need to run. I have no clue what has changed (or what I have involuntarely changed). Does anyone knows how make that happen again?
                        Ciao and thanks. GIorgio

                            Dear Friends,

I had the same problem after updating my LG GSA-4081B firmware from version A100 to version A104.

So I´ve decided to return to the older version (A100), but I can´t find it anymore.

Do you know a site where I can download this old version from?

                            Thanks a lot,

                            Paulo
