    Quicktime should be able to play any .MOV files. Have you tried using the player?

      i haven't tried the actual quicktime player as i believed that the quicktime alternative ver 1.44 that i have installed also plays any .mov file.

            "i just changed the file from .mov to .mpg and hey presto it plays in wmp."

            I believe that the ONLY way that would work is if the file was, in actuality, an MPEG file or a .3IVX file that had been renamed with an ".MOV" extender...

                1) Download and install the .3IVX codec

                2) Change the extender to .AVI

                      @setarip
                      i tried it and then converted the file to dvd format using winavi but the video and audio are out of sync.
                      i have virtualdub,mpeg-vcr,dvdshrink,ultraiso and vcdgear what would be the easiest way to separate the audio & video then resync

                        Before discussing the appropriate software:

                        1) Load the (now) .AVI video file into VirtualDubMOD

                        2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

                        3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box
