I'm pretty new to ripping and burning etc, and was wondering if anyone could advise me on best burning media to use?

Also the best place to purchase media?

I live in England (If that makes any difference!!!)

Unfortunately, life is not that simple. You have to determine the requirements of both your burner and the players that you use for playing back your burned DVDs.
