    DVD recorder capacity?

I recently began looking at DVD records and was surprised to see that some of them claim to be able to record up to eight hours on a single 4.7gb DVD. How is that possible? Do they just reduce the bit rate to get more video on the disk or is some other technique involved?

How many hours can you record on a single DVD +RW and get acceptable quality? Can I record a three hour movie and get good quality?

    Thanks.

Its not the length of the video, it is as you mentioned the "Bit Rate".

People will put anything on their product for it to sale. It might be able to record 8 hours of a single layer DVD but, what will the quality look like?
