Converting to a compatible format (for after-effects)

Hi, i have exported an .avi file from a 3d program. Here are the details of the file:

    codec: S-Mpeg 4 version 2
    size: 29.1mb
    resolution: 1024x768 (1.33:1) [=4:3]
    fps: 25
    Bitrate: 6625 kb/s
    no audio

The file runs fine in windows media player but when i try to import into after effects i get an error.

Can anyone suggest a way that i can convert the file into an after-effects friendly format?

I have tried using TMPGenc but that just gives me a black video.

    any suggestions would be appreciated,
    cheers

have you tried virtualdub/mod to re-compress to something like divx first?

tmpgenc doesn't like that codec/compression, but will gladly take divx.
