    High resolution DVD still capture

I am trying to make my own compilation DVDs for TV series. I am working on Chetwood's tutorial to make the menu's. For my menu backgrounds, I would like to be able to capture stills from various episodes. So far I have been able to capture stills with PowerDVD. Unfortunately these still have a resolution of 72 p/inch - the screen resolution. I would like to capture at higher resolutions so my menu's will look nice when playing my DVD in a standalone connected to a TV set.

I searched the web and found Topaz Moments. I cannot seem to wart working with this package because it reports errors when trying to open DVD or IFOs. I tried to solve this problem by installing the Elecard MPEG2 decoder package and K-Lite codec pack but still it reports an error with regard to MPEG2 codec or video card incompatibility.

Thus, I need another (software) solution.

Who can help me out here?

ok now assuming ur dvd is of top most quality, and u capture as de-interlaced jpeg/bmp, ur captured pic will be of 720/576 [pal] most. now if u compare them with any pic frm digi camera they look crap.

anyway for menu try not to stretch ur pictures and they should look good on tv then ur comp screen,
Seems like as soon you buy somehing, v. 2 comes out 1.5 times as fast!..!

first of all, uninstall all codec packs. they are evil

if all you want to do is capture a frame from a dvd, just download 'media player classic', while playing, use the 'save image' function, and it will save the shot at the original resolution

screen captures from powerdvd, media player classic, virtualdub, etc. are all gonna be the same resolution 720x480 @72px. You can't possibly capture at a higher resolution using Standard Def source material because...

        wait for it...

        here it comes...

That's the Resolution of the Source Material.

yup as taelon made quite clear, you cannot get high quality pics from a lower quality source. what i would do is either live with it (most likely what i would do), or go to a site like http://www.movieweb.com for high res stuff (not sure if they carry pics for tv series though)
