Im trying to change my book type setting its says unkown( just unknown with no number after it and wont let me select new settings) when i go to change form in any of the setting except, dvd +rw it tells me that it is a dvd+r but when i change to dvd rom and click ok it says for dvd rw media only
i am using dvdd and dvdshrink in iso mode , maxell media , media code oo2 dvd+r. firmware bgs4 lite-on 1633 Also in dvdshrink when i burn with that it already has dvdrom mark in the options is this good enouough or does it have to be set in dvdd also

Are you sure the firmware you have is bgs4 for your 1633?

You could patch your firmware to enable it all the time using Omnipatcher by the Codeguys or use the LiteOn utility booktype135.exe and run it in the background to do it on a case by case basis. You can get booktype135.exe from LiteOn here.http://www.liteonit.com/ODD/English/.../e_utility.asp

I figured it wasn't an official LiteOn f/w, the latest for the 1633 is BSOS from LiteoN and the Codeguys didn't have it listed under the 1633 either. The booktype135 should still work with it, I'm pretty sure.

what about the second question ( if dvdshrink is set in dvdrom mode does that mean dvdd will burn it in dvd rom mode beacuase i select make iso image then burn with dvdd in shrink menu)... i know a little about omnipatcher but not booktype , i didnt really want to use onmipathcher incase it messes up my drive does booktype just run in the back round or does it change something in ur drive wont be (back online tell around 1100eastern time)

Booktype from LiteON just runs in the background and makes no changes to the drive firmware and It is from LiteOn.

The best way to see if the disc's booktype was actually changed is to open it with DVDDecrypter and look.

With the LiteOn's booktype135 you can query, change the booktype to DVD-ROM and you have to minimize (not close) booktype before you burn. After the burn maximize booktype, and query to check the booktype again.

Kprobe does it also I think but I use booktype135 to go from + to DVD-ROM.

jm1647, sounds like a hassle I just set the change booktype utility in DVDDecrypter to "Drive (For DVD+R/+R DL media)" to DVD-ROM and never have to think about it again, every +R gets set to ROM when it's burned.

ill try that booktype software , i put the disc back in my player and used dvdd to check to see if they were changed but they were not they still said dvd+r , Taleon i tried that but it didnt work i think its because dvdd thinks its a sony drive because of the firmware and every time i try to download the bsos firmware its says it doesnt match the drive so i think my firmware is newer well thats what i was told

Adorkable, hold on a sec please. Lets start from the beginning.

                      1) This is the burner in your eMachines or Gateway?
                      2) The original firmware is BGS4? That firmware doesn't support BitSetting
3 If all the above is true, see this discussion http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=146280
                      4) Please follow the instructions posted by code65536 (be sure to send them a copy of the firmware)
                      5) Go here http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html#SOHW-1653S
                      6) Download and install the CS0P - patched - crossflashing, multi-colored LED (for 1213S, 1613S, 1633S, etc.) firmware
That firmware is already patched you won't need to use the omnipatcher, just follow the instructions included in the .zip file
When you are finished your drive should be recognized as a LiteOn SOHW-1653S and will support BitSetting in DVDDecrypter etc.
