Render AVI staggers in media player

I've rendered an AVI file with the intention to get it to DVD.
I render it form Adobe After Effects 5.5, it is about 4mins with a fair bit of detail with layers, text, audio etc.
When I play the AVI file back in Windows Media Player it starts to pause for about half a second every few seconds.
Is this just my system struggling to play it back, as it is a bit old P4 1.7ghz 512RAM?
If so, if I go to encode it then burn it to DVD, will this staggering show in the final outcome as well?

possible, try other players--that's what i do when you need to be sure. try media player classic, or even better power dvd, because power dvd won't lag as easy as windows players (not for me anyway). another alternative is to burn to a RW disc first.

if it was encoded wrong yes, does the audio "chirp" or sound like it's getting cutt off when the video stutters occur? if so it sounds like it is the player lagging.

Yes the audio and the video pauses.

thanks for the good advice, I was thinking I was going to waste a few discs before I sorted this out.

          SUCCESS!

It was just media player lagging. The previews within TMPGenc play it back fine and I went on to burn it to DVD and it plays back perfectly.
          Thanks for your help.

            thats good news!

tip: avi's will stutter on playback MUCH easier than encoded files from tmpgenc. use media player classic or power dvd for playback of the final files, you'll find playback quite "stable" (depending on your pc)
