I have an mkv file and I want to convert it to avi format. I used mkvextractgui to extract the files on my mkv file. So far, I have extracted 1 avi file, 1 vfr file (?), 2 ac3 file (?), and 2 subtitle file. How do I convert the ac3 files into lame mp3 in order to merge it at virtualdub? Any steps in doing this? Thanks!

Also, I forgot to ask, the 2 srt files, I can't seem to add them to the avi using virtual dub, I followed the videohelp guide, by opening the video, choosing textsub at the filter but it can't open the srt files. Help! -
AC3 to mp3 is not difficult with BeSweet (see my sig). Use the BeLight GUI.
As for the subbies - use Subtitle Creator by Paddington.

I can't seem to understand this besweet, I've loaded the besweet gui in the command line so as the ac3 and chose the lame mp3 output, but every time I execute the command, the command just says pops up the be sweet gui again. This is one confusing tool, any other tool there? Thanks!Comment

Scratch that, already got the audio into my video. My problem now is the srt file , can't seem to load it to virtual dub. Thanks for the besweet!Comment

The Subtitle creator isn't working for me. I want to merge the extracted srt file to the avi that I have, but my problem is I can't seem to load it correctly. What should I do? Thanks!Comment

If this is a VFR MKV file, just forget trying to convert it into an AVI file. Its too difficult and complicated, only Pro's can do that, using AVIsynth scripts. Doom9.org could be a source to search.
What you are trying to do is comparable to trying to fit a modern 6 cylinder PORSCHE boxer engine into a VW beetle. It works somehow, but you need to invest a LOT of time, and its complete anachonism.
Don't forget, MKV was made to overcome some severe limitations of AVI ....

It is totally bizarre nubanks that:
1. You would reply to Christian - who is so involved in the Matroska project - that way; and
2. You'd bother to revive a thread that is 1 year old just to be rude.

not to mention his first comment doesn't make much sense (unless he meant "isn't")"One day men will look back and say I gave birth to the 20th Century". Jack The Ripper - 1888
