Hi everyone, I just recently joined this forum in hopes of finding a cure for a video problem I've been having with downloaded video clips. It seems that the video clips were recorded with 5.1 sound, but i have my syster hooked up to a typical stereo set of speakers, problem is that it apparently still tries to direct the 5.1 signal. I know this because i can here music and off screen noices fine (as soon as a character walks off to a side i can here them fine) but if they are right in front of the camera I can only barely here theyre voices. I've been looking into this for sometime but haven't come to a solution. Any questions comments or suggestions more than welcome.

check your sound device settings, and make sure they match your speaker setup (can be done through windows media player, or control panel). if you have onboard audio, (such as realtek) check the sound application settings, and also make sure they are set to '2 speakers' or 'stereo'.
you should downmix to stereo, download & install 'ac3filter', http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/ and turn on that option in its configuration (can be accessed through the control panel)
i recommend you play with 'media player classic' http://www.free-codecs.com -
when and if you install the AC3 filter, you can try and turn on "loud" to raise the gain, worked great for me.
