That is the format that DVDs use. I have found that Ulead Video Studio can handle AC3s. You will NOT get any sound while editing the video, and converting, but the end product will have sound. Not sure why this is. I renamed a VOB with AC3 to MPG and Ulead converted it fine. Hope that works for you!

Note: I am using UVS 9, the newest one.

you can't demux wav out of an ac3 file. did you use and follow the procedures for virtualdub (not virtualdubmod)? did you install the ac3 acm decompressor? you're making a mistake somewhere.

        Hi Shadowofthedark,

IMHO, I think that you've missed one step while using VitualDubMod to demux your .avi file into video only file and .ac3 audio file: Disable audio stream before saving AVI file with VirtualDubMod

Ok, please go back to the beginning where you first open your .avi file with VirtualDubMod. Next, go to Video and select "Direct stream copy". Then go to Streams, press Stream List, and select Demux to save your .ac3 file to your HDD. After the AC3 saving process completes and returns to the Available Stream window, you now have to click the Disable button and notice that the audio stream becomes gray and covered with small lines all over it. Now you are going to save the .avi file with NO sound at all to your HDD by pressing F7 or File-->Save as. Just make sure the "Direct stream copy" is selected

Now open TMPGEnc, close the Wizard, and load the PAL or NTSC DVD template. Select ES (Video only) because you are not going to add audio now yet. Click Start to begin the encoding your .avi file to .m2v file (mpg)

After finishing encoding, you can now start the TMPGEnc DVD Author, click Add file and load the encoded .m2v file. On the Audio setting, click Browse and load the .ac3 file which you saved earlier. Create chapters and menu you like and author DVD.

You can covert your audio from AC3 to WAV by using Belight and BeSweet, but I believe that TMPGEnc DVD Author will accepts AC3 too

        Regards

it most certainly will, but you may have to "fix" it with AC3fix or beslice

I've followed the advice above, but when I tried to add the audio, it says digital audio ac3 is not compatible and audio channel mode 6ch is not compatible with the current track. I'm sorry for being so long away from the boards, got busy at work.

ok, i know the message exactly. this message will appear in DVD author when you attempt to add a file that has disimilar audio from the one previously loaded. when you get this message, select "cancel" then using the "browse" button (on the window of the new file being added) select the appropriate audio file.

so if the first file had ac3 for example, you'd load the ac3 for the second one. bottom line is audio has to be all the same type for the same track. with me?

Wait, so does that mean that all of the video's in my dvd should have ac3 instead? I just want the movie to have an audio when I convert it to mpeg so I can compile it in DVD author. This ac3 is just too problematic.

i only used ac3 as an example cause it's what i mostly work with. remember what i said. all files on the same track have to have the same audio. maybe it would make it easier to see what you're doing if you told me how many files are going on this dvd.

Naah, its ok. I just used besweet to convert the audio to mp3. Too bad it became mono, but after all the work, I finally made the dvd. I think there's 7 movies in it. Thanks for all the help

you could have used belight to make it easier for you, and the presets would have it on stereo, but glad you worked it out
