Blinking AVI and WMV picture

Hi, I'm just wondering how to get my videos to stop blinking. They never used to, but they just started to one day, no matter what player I use (Media Player, Power DVD, Real One). The mpegs are fine, but avi and wmv are choppy. And the thing is, it happens all the time, but every once in a while, it will stop doing it. AND it only does it with downloaded ones. AVIs that my friends have sent me from digital cameras don't do it. Does anyone know what the problem is?

make sure you have the latest directx and your graphics card drivers.

uninstall all codec packs you may have installed, download & install 'ffdshow' from http://www.aziendeassociate.it/cd.asp?dir=/ffdshow , and try playing with 'media player classic'

have you installed any programs recently that may require graphics hardware acceleration (such as 'windowblinds', objectdock, etc)

hey... I haven't installed any programs in a while.. i got the latest direct x, i already have ffdshow, and as for whatever codec packages i have, I wouldnt have any idea how to locate them or uninstall them, or even know what they are. And finally... where do i find Media Player Classic? Sorry, i dont know anything! lol Thanks for the help.

do you have the LATEST ffdshow?

to uninstall codec packs, go control pannel-->add/remove programs.

still no luck

Ok, so I uninstalled the ffdshow I had... I looked and didnt see any other codec packages in the add/remove programs to delete. I installed the newest ffdshow, got the Media Player Classic, and it's STILL blinking! I dont know what to do!

Agood program is VLC (videolan, free).It uses it's own codecs and plays most anything

Man!

Wow! I downloaded VLC and I got so excited cuz the first movie I tried to play wasnt blinking! And then I tried a different one just to make sure, and that one was blinking! So I tried the first movie again, and it blinked too. And it affects the whole screen too. Like even if you minimize the window, it creates this intermittent flash of lines on the bottom half of the screen. I just don't know...

as i asked before, are you running anything such as 'windowblinds', objectdock, konfabulator, or a transperant winamp skin?

open media player classic, play a video that exhibits the problem, right-click the video while its playing, click 'filters', and list every filter shown

have you tried a 'system restore'?

try this: run media player classic, press 'o' on your keyboard, click 'output' and select vmr9. close media player, run it again, and play a video.

sounds like a hardware (graphics card) problem...
