    VCR to Computer?

Hi, I really need to put a VHS movie on my computer but don't know how. Is it possible to use a VCR connected to a reciever and get the video onto the computer through the USB connection? That is the only thing I could think off but don't know if it will work. If anybody could answer, that would be great. Thanks.

You need to get a capture card, or USB Capture box. I have had better luck with the Pci capture cards and they are cheap. Windows Moviemaker comes with XP and actually works though it does not offer many options, but it does work. I would connect the VCR directly to the capture device so as not to create a ground loop which could cause some noise and video bars appearing. You should be able to get a capture card from www.tigerdirect.com. I actually have a "Kworld Pci Dvd maker" that only costs around $25.00 and works great. The audio capture will come into your sound card. The software will bring the two together.

also, if i may, i would recommend turtle-beach cards...i've worked with them before, and they are of an amazingly high standard. i think that it's called a 'daughter card', or something like that, with an optical in/out, as well as the standard stereo video inputs...check it out.

I believe, but I could be wrong, that some Turtle Beach cards use proprietary software, make sure any card you get works with a variety of programs . I had serious problems with a DC10plus from Pinnacle that only worked with Studio and in fact never really worked that well. The K-World cards work with just about everything, including Studio from Pinnacle.
