After ripping a movie to my hard drive and changing the original file to a mpg file the audio is way out of sync. Do I need to do something to my audio files? I have tried both DvdShrink and DvdDecrypter but both have the same problem. Also, after editing a movie, will I need to put in chapter selections or will the originals still be there? And finally, will I need to change the mpg file back to the original file type (can't remember the name) for it to play in a dvd player? Thanks!

If you reencode, your chapter points will have to be created again.
DVD only plays if the files are in a proper structure, but you cant just rename it back and expect that it will play.(since there are other associated files also)
I would suggest that you use DVD-Lab for your DVD compilation, including chapters and menus. -
Tried a few more discs and nothing works. My friend told me it may be because I'm just manually changing them to a mpg file instead of using a conversion program. He says there's a program out there that changes DVD files into 700 mb or so AVI files. He couldn't remember the name. Anybody know what he's talking about? Also, someone tried to tell me that it was because my hardrive was a laptop, so the processor didn't have enough rpm's. My friend has a lower-end laptop than mine and his works fine. Thanks again.Comment

"After ripping a movie to my hard drive and changing the original file to a mpg file the audio is way out of sync"
what procedure are you using to change the original to an mpg ? If you play the rip from your hard drive (before doing any changes) is the audio in sync?Comment

I'm just changing the file extension (click on it to edit the file name, delete the .vob and replace it with .mpg) I was told this would work, but then someone told me that was probably the problem. He told me I would need a program to change the file. He said he uses a program to change them into 700mb avi files, but he couldn't remember the name.Comment

changing the file extension from .vob to .mpg will NOT make the audio/video go out of sync in the file. Play the from your hard drive and see if the audio is in sync after the ripping proccess. If it is ok then we have to check for audio/video sync in every step you are performing to determine at what step you are getting the audio sync problem.Comment

Well, I took some Quicktime video I had shot and used DVD lab to edit them and made a DVD that works fine. I just tried to change the VOB file that's still on my hard drive to an MPG and am expieriencing the same problem. If I can find a program that can convert my video_ts file into a watchable video then I think I can solve my problem. The video is also all jittery when I try to watch the converted MPG file. Is there something that will let me watch a vob file in windows? Oh yeah, everything is in sync before I rip it. Thanks for all your help. I'll be in CA for a week so I won't be able to check for a while. Thanks again.Comment
