    converting avi files to vcd

Since I'm in the newbie section obviously I'm new at this. I have read through alot of your instructions and they don't sound too bad!! I attempted my first conversion of an avi to vcd the other night (before I found this website) I used Nero. After letting it run all night I got up in the morning to find the converted mpg file was too big for the disk I was trying to put it on. I will try the software you recommended next time, however, This is my question......... How do I know how big I should chop the file in order for it to fit on the disk once it is converted? It explains to chop the movie in half, but I beleive this movie was already chopped in half and still didn't fit. Nero, did not tell me how big the file was after it converted it, so how would I know how much I would have to take off?

Compliant VCDs are similar to audio CDs, in that they're based on running time and not filesize. You should be able to fit up to 80 minutes of video on a 700Mg/80Minute CD-R...

you probably used TMPGEnc to convert the movie. You can also use this to cut it in half. Use the Mpeg tools selection.
