How do you extract a section of video. Say I have a 30 minute long video and just want to take 5 mins of it and make it into a new video file....I have googled for a while and can only find things that allow me 30 seconds etc unless I pay $10,000 for it to put spyware on mypc....

use virtualdub for avi, see "splitting avi's" here http://www.doom9.org/virtualdub_procedures.htm
