burned DVD plays on PC but not DVD player

I'm quite the newbie to this stuff so please bear with me. I want to capture video I've recorded on my DV camcorder, edit it and burn it to a DVD so I can play it on a home DVD player. Sounds simple, right?

I have the trial version of PowerDirector 4.0. I've successfully captured video, edited it and "produced" an mpeg2 movie. I can replay the movie on my laptop, no problem. I then burned the file to a DVD-R disc using a Sony external drive (DRX-810UL). The DVD plays on my laptop, no problem.

Believe it or not, I don't yet own a DVD player. So, I went to Best Buy with my DVD and attempted to play it on a number of DVD players (from low-end to high-end players). No success.

Where do I start to figure this out? Thanks in advance.

      Welcome to the forum

Your problem should be that you burned the mpeg file on a DVD.

A standalone is not able to play mpeg files straight, but mpeg must be converted in VOB files. To do this you need a DVD authoring software like DVD Lab.

If you don't convert mpeg in VOB, your standalone can't play your video files
