Playing back divx AVIs on Plasma through pc

this is probably such a newbie question, but here goes

I can play a divx avi through my pc no problems. When I hook the laptop upto my Pioneer Plasma, the entire screen minus movie is played. Do I need a hack or alike to get this working. I'm using the divx player. I notice it's the same when I play DVDs too...........

Sounds like an overlay issue. The only active overlay would be the one on your primary display, the 2nd just gets black instead.

That happened to me, until anonymez cleared it up. If you are using Windows Media Player, go to the options, then display, then advanced, and uncheck "use overlays" on both boxes. (The wording is not perfect - but the actual steps are very similar.) Media Player Classic should be able to use non-overlays as well.
