Converting avi and or mpeg to mov

I would like to know the quickest and simplest way to convert a avi formatted video file into a quicktime formatted mov file. And I need to do the same for an mpeg file.

Any hints,

If I remember correctly, MOV2AVI is a program which works in both directions (AVI2MOV, as well as MOV2AVI), although it may not be able to handle some of the more recent .DivX codecs.

I believe that the most current incarnation of QuickTime Pro (for the Apple world) now recognizes standard MPEG formats...
