    Problem encoding video with Tmpgenc

I have quite a few mpg files that will not open in tmpgenc...

the files frame size is, according to VirtualDub 528 X 576 and 25,000 fps
    average bitrate is 1712 Kbps

The audio track of the videos is 48KHz mixed stereo, and 192 Kbps layer II

Nero tells me when i try to burn the above mpgs the following errors/problems:

    stream incoding invalid for VCD
    invalid video stream: 29.97 fps, 720 X 480 pixels
    no audio

can someone please recommend how i can encode these vids for a VCD? Like i said when i try to open the files in tmpgenc... they will not open

do they play ok on the pc?

    try this:
Go to the TMPGEnc's Option menu and select Environmental settings. From there, select the
    VFAPI Plug-in tab.

There you see a list of various reader plugins installed for the TMPGEnc. The one that's called DirectShow Multimedia File Reader is the one that we're looking at. As a default, its priority is -1. Select the item and right click on it. Choose Higher priority and repeat this until the "Priority" for this item is higher than any other plugin's priority in the list (usually 2). now try to load the files again.

open the window of vdub. press ALT+print screen. open MSpaint>edit>paste>save as(select PNG).go to imageshack
http://www.imageshack.us/ browse for this file you just made, then "host" it. copy and paste the link under "hotlink for forums 1" in your post.

                  Hi Salsero12,

Please go to the link below and download the "m2v VFAPI Plugin for TMPGEnc 0.6.51".This plugin allows using MPEG-2 video as the video source for TMPGEnc. Please read the installation instruction carefully

ben just before you posted that i was wondering what is in the vfapi list for tmpgenc's mpeg-2 decoder when you first get it. i assume it detects it on your system when it's installed? i'm using cyberlink mpeg-2 decoder. before i used stinky's http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=Stinkys_MPEG2_Codec
                    what do you use?

                      Aloha LT.

I have WinDVD installed in my system and never needed installing addtional MPEG-2 codec for TMPGEnc to open .mpg files. I've known these tools with the purpose of helping someone who has problem with TMPGEnc and practically haven't used them before. Different tools but serve the same purpose. IMHO, the Stinky's MPEG-2 Codec seems very simple to install though

                        Ok...

the exact message TMPGenc gives me is:

"The file can not open, or unsupported"

That's after already increasing priority to Direct Show. Here's the list of plugins in order of priority

                        DirectShow (1)
                        AVI2 (openDML) file reader (0)
                        BMP/PPM/TGA/JPG File reader (0)
                        Microsoft MPEG-1 decoder (0)
                        Wave file reader (0)
                        TMPGenc Project file reader (0)
                        AVI VFM compatibility reader (-2)

well i don't see an mpeg-2 decoder in the list. you can install either one that ben and i gave you, then try to load them again. but before you load them again, raise directshow to (2)

                          @ben, aloha!

Thank you Columbo and ben for your help.. i was able to convert the files Just one question what type of file is my video? The video is 212 MB.. the quality is excellent, i love it... but converting it affected the quality a lot... what is the best way to use and burn my video onto something so that it will be the best quality possible??? Should i convert it? If yes, into what and burn it onto what medium... if not, then how and to what do i burn?

                            Thank you.

you have an mpeg-2 video. when converted to VCD there is significant quality loss. the best thing would be to put it on dvd. all you'd have to do is author it, but i suppose you don't have a dvd writer or else you would have thought of that.
