    Can anyone identify this format?

I am having problems with this movie, it will play in powerDVD fine, but the sound is out of sync in my Stand alone DVD. I would like to convert it and burn to disk to play on DVD's, but it is not in a format recognised by Virtual Dub or any other editing program.
Won't play on any media player but Power DVD. Disk has SVCD
files on it, but isn't SVCD.

    Any one have any Clues

What dou you mean with "any other editing program"? If it's MPEG-2 you can use most of the DVD-De/Encoders like DVD2AVI.
    don't trust in guides

The video track is in MPEG2 format and you say the CD has SVCD components and it plays (albeit out of synch) on your standalone DVD player. These facts would lead me to the conclusion that, despite your statement, this IS an MPEG2-SuperVideoCD.

If the audio stream was recorded at a frequency of 48,000Hz, this could be the cause of it playing out of synch on your standalone (Unfortunately, the text information you've posted doesn't reflect the audio frequency).

        Thanks for the replies

As you can tell I am a beginner. I am hoping to salvage this movie,
if possible.(so it will play on my DVD. Does this mean I need to convert to avi then re encode to mpeg 2, but change the audio
        frequency.

Ps how do I find out what the audio frequency is on this movie.

          frequency"

No. Just load the file into TMPGEnc. After loading, if you look at the bottom of the TMPGEnc window, you'll see information about the file - including information about the audio frequency.

If it indicates 48,000Hz, click on the "Settings" radio button, then click on the "Audio" tab and change the frequency to 44,100.

Click on the "System" tab and change the mode to "MPEG2-SuperVideoCD". Click on "OK".

Enter a new filename for this modified file and click on the "Run" radio button to save the new file.

Use NERO (or similar) to burn ONLY (NOT to format) as SVCD.

          Let us know of your success ;>}
